Since his birth, the 28th September 1979, Julien Girardot lives in an artistic environment. His father Philippe is a pastellist painter very well known, who did not stop to transmit his passion for the visual arts.
He study at the school of arts professions in Auray where he obtain a certificate of graphics communication, then he join the famous “Ecole Pivot” in Nantes, witch prepare to become an artistic draughtsman.

To earn some money after leaving school, he learns cookery.
During 7 years he works as a part time cook in theAlpes mountains winter time and in Saint Malo in summer where he lives since 10 years.
In between he loves to go abroad as a traveller with his backpack and his camera, live with people and take time to share their way of life.
His first photos , like all travellers, are just for souvenirs.
After 5 months in India then 4 months in southeast Asia and hundreds photos taken, it is time for him to leave the kitchens-stoves and come back to a graphic activity.
He becomes a freelance photographer in 2006 and shoot his first big race: La Route du Rhum starting from Saint malo
He meets and works for Servanne Escoffier the young talented yachtswoman and follows her ventures.
By her side he learns the racing universe, meets many skippers, and improve his knowledge for navigation under sail.

In2008 he diffuse his first sailings themes and racing through the sports press agency : DPPI. This collaboration will last 2 years.

In 2009 as he is visiting the Salon Nautique de Paris he discovers the Tara Arctic exposition. This aluminium schooner previously known Antartica with Jean louis Etienne, serves the scientific interests since 20 years.
A new expedition is taking form : Tara Oceans. The crew will be few but he desperately wants to be in the number. Julien offers to be both photographer and cook.
After a merchant marine training he join Tara in Djibouti in January 2010 for a 4 month navigation up to Mauritius island as a crew member, cook and photographer!
During the trip he will use successively saucepans and camera. He will take thousands photos of this wonderful enterprise.

After landing in Mauritius he will stay 2 months to investigate and work at the delicate problem of Chagos exiled then share the life of Rodrigues island fishermen. His work will be published in the international press.

His photographic after this 6 months trip will be a real push forward. Soon as he came back to France the photographic team Sea and Co proposes him to join them. Julien who always considerate those as the best sailing photographers is very honoured to be recognized and agree immediately.
